Only a month to go before Champions League starts up again and I for one can't wait. This years looks really open with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man City, PSG , Juventus, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all in with a decent shout. My predictions to qualify are in brackets beside each fixture. What's yours?
Juventus (ITA) v Tottenham Hotspur (ENG): 13 February & 7 March (Juventus) - Although Spurs have topped their group, I do belive that they have been flattered by an out of form Real Madrid & A Borrusia Dortmund side in transition.
Basel (SUI) v Manchester City (ENG): 13 February & 7 March
(Man City) Possibly the best side in Europe right now and my fancy to make the final itself!
Porto (POR) v Liverpool (ENG): 14 February & 6 March
(Liverpool) Think this will very tough but Liverpool's attacking talent should be too much for a resolute Porto side who do not concede much.
Real Madrid (ESP, holders) v Paris St Germain (FRA): 14 February & 6 March
(PSG) I firmly believe that this is where Real Madrid's journey comes to an end. They do not seem to be the same team after losing some star players and Ronaldo has been very quiet this season. PSG boast an incredible array of star talent in Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani. Think PSG will knock out the champions here.
Chelsea (ENG) v Barcelona (ESP): 20 February & 14 March
(Barcelona) Messi is in outstanding form yet again for the Catalan side topping the goalscoring charts with 16 goals and 7 assists. He has also been instrumental in guiding Barcelona to top of La Liga - 9 pts ahead of nearest rivals Atletico and 16 ahead of Real Madrid. Chelsea will not make it easy but just can't envisage them beating Barcelona over the two legs.
Bayern München (GER) v Beşiktaş (TUR): 20 February & 14 March*
Bayern Munich seem back in the groove again under Jupp Heynckes and they will surely have too much for the Turkish side.
Sevilla (ESP) v Manchester United (ENG): 21 February & 13 March
(Manchester United) Mourinho knows how to win this trophy and has already steered Man Utd to a Europa glory last year. I believe it would be a major shock if they were to be eliminated at this stage.
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) v Roma (ITA): 21 February & 13 March (Shakhtar Donetsk) qualified from a tough group that included Napoli. Have a superb home record and know where the net is. Roma, by contrast have been have been largely inconsistent in Seria A where they trail Napoli in 5th place by 12 points.
So my Quarter Finalists in this years Champions League ar as follows:
Juventus
Man City
Liverpool
PSG
Bayern Munich
Barcelona
Shaktar Donetsk
Manchester United
