You Wear It Well - 2.25pm Sandown The Grade 2 Jane Seymour Mares Novice Hurdle
A Midnight Legend filly out of a winning black-type mare, who has produced three winners from four runners, including the five-time winner, Schiaparannie. This mare was 2nd on her racecourse debut last season and then won a bumper on her next start. She won on her seasonal and hurdling debut and then bolted up under a penalty next time out at Hexham. She stepped forwards on her last start when we stepped her up in trip, and class where she was 2nd in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle. That form puts her right up there with the best novice hurdlers in the country. This race looks tight and competitive, as you would expect, but I'd not be swapping her......

Two meetings today with two at Leicester and one at Sandown Park. Heading to Leicester are two half brothers, Ben Buie and Dreamsundermyfeet who we have had since youngsters from PJ Colville too and who both, after plenty of time, have won plenty of races between them. Ben Buie is partnered by David Bass whose positive riding style should suit him and he boasts the best form of any horse in my yard I think with form figures of 321311 recently. He seems in very good heart and if he shows the resolution he did last time out then he should take some beating.
Dreamsundermyfeet is also ultra consistent with form figures of 33332 but it would be great to get his head back in front. Rex Dingle, who has won on him before, is in the saddle and if he jumps as well as he can do then he will be thereabouts too as he’s in great form at home.
At Sandown Spanish Present re-appears after a wind operation for David Maughan. It’s a red hot race but hopefully with an improvement in his wind he will be able to finish his races better and will run a solid race although sometimes it does take a run for them to have confidence in their breathing. We’ve always thought a lot of him so I am hopeful he’ll start to show on the track what he does at home.
No bets for me but stable in fine form & had another winner yesterday uncommonly on debut shows how well string are competing with the big guns . Prairie Diamond (backed) @9/4

JP McManus has bought the 5/1 Albert Bartlett fav CORBETTS CROSS from Paul Byrne!!
The six-year-old stays in training with Emmet Mullins.
CORBETTS CROSS out-battles G Elliott’s Found A Fifty on his first start for Emmet Mullins over 2m. Quite the performance, considering he won a handicap over 3m on off 130 LTO.

Ten lengths Tom - I think he is being overlooked given his last run. The fav is only fav through the trainer and the trainer of the 2nd horse in the betting is struggling to find form. He will give you a run for your money and the weight allowance shouldn't be forgotten. 520-Warwick

Soldier of Destiny - 3.10pm Doncaster @15/8 🥈
This Presenting gelding is out of a winning dam, and is a half-brother to a couple of useful winners. He was beaten 5 lengths on his debut in an Irish Point-to-Point behind the subsequent Grade 1 performer Gentlemansgame, and he was then 2nd in a bumper. After a lacklustre start over hurdles, he proved a revelation over fences and won two decent novice handicaps at Ffos Las and Haydock. He ran well when 5th on his seasonal reapearance in the Grade 2 Old Roan, but fell on his next start. We gave him a confidence boosting run over hurdles next time out, where he was 2nd, but he once again disappointed back over fences last time. I'd like to hope he can now get back on track back over hurdles once more. Jamie Snowden Racing
Looks well Hcp on previous hurdles form but obviously needs to show MORE to win this against an inform (4-19 29%) Neil Mulholland 5year old distance winner & the shrewd double handed Olly Murphy stable who runs a Pair of 6yold’s. Ga Law - 2.50pm Cheltenham Festival, The Ryanair Chase, Grade 1
A half-brother to 6 winners including Val De Law, who was placed in a Grade 1 for us a couple of years ago. Ga Law won on hurdling debut in France before arriving with us. After giving him time to acclimatise, he hit the ground running in novice chases as we utilised his generous 4-year-old weight for age allowance. He won three novices on the bounce, including the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novice Chase at Wincanton. He subsequently was placed in the Grade 1 Henry VIII Chase, and the Grade 2 Pendil, but picked up an injury prior to the Aintree Festival 2021. He subsequently missed last season, but has come back bigger and stronger this time around. On the back of over 600 days off the track, he was a very pleasing 3rd in the Grade 2 Old Roan chase at Aintree on his comeback and then won the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham in November. That was a career best, but he was nicely handicapped and he showed good staying ability that day. Up 8lbs, he came to win his race in the Skybet Chase at Doncaster, but tipped up at the last. We've take our time since, and he's in terrific form coming into this, however it's a classy renewal, and we're hoping he can run into a place.

Datsalrightgino - 4.10pm Cheltenham Festival, The Plate handicap chase, Grade 3
By the high-class German-trained middle-distance performer, It’s Gino, who was 3rd in the Arc (the sire of Grade 1 winning hurdler and Grade 2 winning chaser, Lalor) and out of a 3-time winning ‘Group placed’ mare. This full brother to a nine-time winner was 2nd in three bumpers before having a fruitful novice hurdling campaign last season, winning on two occasions including at Cheltenham. He ran well to be 2nd on his chasing debut at Newton Abbot, in a race that has worked out well, and then he won very impressively at Chepstow next time out. Up 9lbs for that win, he was placed on his next two starts, but was finding 2m a bit sharp. Upped to 2m4 he ran a career best to be 2nd to Stage Star at Cheltenham in a really competitive handicap on trials day. He was a fine 2nd in the Grade 2 Pendil last time out, and he's now stepping out of novice company for the first time. This is a seriously competitive handicap, but we are an improving young horse who can run a big race, with a bit of luck.

A Midnight Legend filly out of a winning black-type mare, who has produced three winners from four runners, including the five-time winner, Schiaparannie. That form puts her right up there with the best novice hurdlers in the country. She won the Grade 2 Jane Seymour at Sandown last time out, and is following the same route into this race as last year's winner. She is in great shape, and we couldn't be happier with her, but this looks a serious race, so need a bit of luck in running.

We launch a twin attack on the Midlands Grand National By Geoff Lester Posted March 16, 2023 In Latest News March 16
It’s my 75th birthday on Saturday, and Alan has, I hope, produced six of the best to pay for the champagne.
Trouble is we are represented at Uttoxeter, Kempton and Wolverhampton, so where do I don the betting boots?
We launch a twin-attack on the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter, with Notachance and Major Dundee both solid stayers who look tailor-made for this marathon.
Alan said:”Notachance was a good third in the Classic Chase at Warwick in January, and he probably found Haydock plenty sharp enough when subsequently third there.
“Major Dundee is better going left-handed, so I’d expect him to improve on his last run at Kempton, though if the ground did turn heavy I wouldn’t risk him as we want him peaking for the Scottish Grand National at Ayr next month.”
Alan has always thought the world of Heinwein, who was impressive when winning his bumper at Ffos Las in January. He’ll hopefully follow up at Uttoxeter even though he has a penalty.
Another favourite of Alan’s is the veteran Messire des Obeaux, who reappears in the Virgin Bet Fives Handicap Chase at Kempton.
Alan said:””He has had a series of problems over the years, and the latest hiccup came after he won in pleasing fashion at Warwick last month. He’s only gone up 2lb and a gallop in midweek suggests he is just ready to return.”
Harbour Lake, who opted out of his two entries at Cheltenham, runs instead back at Kempton, where he disappointed in the Lanzarote last time.
Alan added:”You can put a line through that run as I have never seen the ground as bad as it was at Kempton. He’d been progressing well before that and is back in very good form at home now.”
We also run Saxon Lane in the junior bumper on the Sunbury course, but, while Alan thinks he is ready to be launched, he stresses that he is a long way from the finished article and will be a much better horse next season.
Finally, Alan runs one on the Flat at Wolverhampton, and he expects a bold show from Pangloss. He said:”We gave Pangloss a good break at the end of last season and I’m happy how he is working now. He won over this course and distance on the tapeta last spring, so, hopefully, he can do it again.”

Up for Parol - 1.50pm Uttoxeter
A brother to the useful bumper winner Letsbeclearaboutit; out of unraced sister to the smart West Coast Time. Up For Parol won an Irish Point-to-Point before arriving with us and he then won a couple of novice hurdles. Last season he won a decent handicap at Haydock off a mark of 127, and he ran a career best when 3rd in the £100k Lanzarote at Kempton on seasonal debut. He went well for a long way at Carlisle the last day, but it probably wasn't soft enough for him, and I think he is better on a flatter track, so he has both those in his favour here. However, he is carrying a lot of weight, but I think he can run well here.
Saturday 18th March 2023
Super Survivor - 3.35pm Uttoxeter
By the sire of Grade 1 winner, The Storyteller and out of a winning half-sister to triple Gold Cup winner Best Mate. He was 2nd in an Irish Point before joining us last summer. He had a great novice hurdling season where he won twice and was 2nd on his only other start. He is built to be a proper staying chaser so we've sent him chasing with very little experience over hurdles. He was however, an excellent 2nd on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter and improved from that to win over course and distance in December. Up 7lbs, he has got to keep improving, but that is likely as he is so lightly raced, and progressive. He loves soft ground, so should run well in this competitive and valuable handicap.

Luttrel Lad - His back form suggests he should be 20-1 not 100-1. He beat Forst Street by 16 lengths and Crampond beat LL 5 lengths. Crampond would have won earlier in the week with a better ride. There will have been more stupid big priced EW bets to have this week.
Glory and Fortune - He needs to redicover his form, he was given no chance in the BEtfair and his race was lost at the start. I hope he can be competitive. 2 mile on softer ground maybe what he needs nowadays. I will be watching him.
Scipion - I think he will stay all day and he has a postage stamp on his back. EW chance at a big price. If he went heavy I may take him out on the day.

Today we have three runners across two meetings, Uttoxeter and Fontwell. D’jango runs in the Midlands National at 3.00pm. He races from a fair bit out of the weights in a tough race but we decided to let him take his chance when the field did not reach its maximum numbers. He will love the extreme test of stamina and just needs to get into a good rhythm early and see what happens. Sean Houlihan rides.
King Turgeon ✅ @12/1 and Heure De Gloire both run at Fontwell with Tom Bellamy in the saddle. King Turgeon runs in the 2.35pm handicap chase over 2m5f. He disappointed on stable debut at Exeter but does have some good placed form in France and we have given him a wind operation since his British debut. If that has the desired effect I expect a much better performance this afternoon. Heure De Gloire runs in the 2m1f handicap hurdle and shares favouritism in this race with the Harry Fry trained runner. She has been in good form this season, running very consistently and getting a deserved victory last time at Leicester. The handicapper has put her up seven pounds for that win but I think she should be able to cope with that. She has had a little break since then and runs well fresh and will like the testing conditions. I think she has a good chance.
Heure De Gloire looks DP’s Main chance today . 312 Fontwell - @6/4 without H.Fry CD Winner on different going (Monjules)

Uttoxeter.
14.25 Trelawne. This big imposing gelding has been waiting for soft ground for sometime. Ran well when winning at Ffos Las and this is a huge step up in class.. Track might be a bit sharp but distance right. Place chances ✅
16.45. Starvoski. Was disappointing at Warwick on Sunday.. We have found nothing wrong with her and she seems so bright and well after the race. We have changed the head gear and that might help . She won this last year and frankly if you took Warwick away she would be very fancied..
Sunday.
Chepstow.
14.40 Isle Of Gold. His Good point to point form in Ireland has not transfered to the raceccourse yet.... Very much hoping for a better run than last time..This big chasing type is probably a horse who will get better in time.
14.40. Kyntara. Back over hurdles and cheek pieces added.. Certainly capable of winning this and hope he does as he has been second too many times.
17.00 Grand Escaparde. This huge horse is certainly not a nataural looking bumper horse.. Having said that we have been pleased with his work but very much a chaser in the making..A horse for the future.

We have five runners today.
Ffos Las.
14.40 Galante De Romay. This mare has run well here before and she certainly has found a race that she should go close in.
15.15 Party Fuzz.. The handicapper was harsh to put him up 8lbs for his Hereford win. I am not sure why he ran so badly last time but he seems well and fresh and could surprise today.
Haydock.
15.35 Hurlerontheditch. First time in a handicap and hard to assess if he is on a good mark. His two races over hurdles have certainly been promising so hiopeful of a very bold showing. Should go close.
16.10 Equus Dreamer. This horse is part owned by Mark and Melinda Laws who lost their horse at Wetherby yesterday so it would be very fitting if he could win this.. He should stay the trip and yes he has a chance of putting smiles on his owners faces.
16.45 Broomfield Present. Hard to work the form of his Catterick second as the winner has not run since. Visor should help and this might be a small field but it looks competitive.. Should go close.

Bannow Bay Boy - He seems to handle the ground and the form of his last race is working out well. I think he has a great chance. @5/2

Racing today rolls onto Chepstow with two runners for the stable, Barrier Peaks and Via Dante. Barrier Peaks runs in the 3.45pm handicap hurdle over 2m3f with Fergus Gillard on board. Our seven year old has won his last four races and has thrived since going handicapping and up in distance. Those wins came in quick succession and so he had a little break while we waited for rain and this is his first run back for a month. The rain has certainly arrived and he should relish the testing conditions this afternoon. The form of his wins has been franked several times with the horses behind him winning since and I think there is more to come off his new rating of 104. There are a couple of other potential dark horses in the line-up but I think he has a great chance.
Via Dante makes his chasing debut in the 4.20pm three mile handicap chase with Jack Tudor on board. We have expected better in his last couple of hurdle starts but he has not really put his best foot forwards! We are hoping the switch to chasing and addition of blinkers can have the desired effect. He jumps well and stays and hopefully Jack can work some magic for the David Pipe Racing Club. Our members will be out in force this afternoon so thank you to Chepstow racecourse in being so helpful in sorting badges for everyone who wanted to attend.

Heads up to back or avoid . Tom Lacey Racing . Blow Your Wad ✅ job done - I couldn't be happier with the horse but we are on a recovery misssion and many factors are unknown. Ground and trip being the concern. He had his reasons for stopping at Sandown which I think we have overcome. I rate this horse and things just havn't always fallen his way. If the wind surgery has been successful I beleive he's the best horse in the race. Trip is less of a concern than ground for me. He has risks attached but this is a good horse whether today his his day or not only time will tell. He will not be knocked about if things are not working out.
Jamie Snowden Racing Ebonello - 2.40pm Newbury EBF BetVictor 'National Hunt' Mares' Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2)
A gorgeous daughter of the champion sire, Presenting, out of Ravello Bay who was a useful black-type winning Supreme Leader mare. Ravello Bay won a bumper and a novice hurdle before finishing 2nd in this race! Ebonello was placed in two bumpers last season and improved on that to win a bumper on her seasonal debut. She jumps well, and won on her hurdling debut at Wincanton. Although she disappointed on her next start, that was over 2m against the boys, and she looked back on track when 2nd under a penalty last time out over 2m3. That race was a qualifier for this race, and this has been her target all season....providing she copes with the forecast soft ground, I think she is massively overpriced here....
Kim Bailey Racing Newbury.
16.25. Moonlighter. This horse won on heavy ground at Chepstow eralier this season and he will have his ground today. Competitive race and certainly capable of going close.. He needs to jump at his best!.
Alan King Racing
Looking at our other Newbury runners for Saturday, Alan added:”The EBF Mares Novices’ Hurdle looks competitive, but I’m hoping that Passionate Pursuit will run well. She was unlucky not to win at Wincanton on Boxing Day, when she unseated Tom Cannon at the second last. She then bumped into a good mare of Dan Skelton’s at Market Rasen, so off a mark of 109 she is far from out of it here.”
Alan has won the £100,000 Goffs Spring Sale Bumper a couple of times and always targets the race. He has three representatives this year and, though all are making their racecourse debut, Alan is looking forward to getting them launched.
He said:”They are ready to start, but all three will improve on whatever they achieve here. Menaggio has been working well and this has always been his aim, I’m A Lumberjack has been doing everything right on the gallops and is by Jack Hobbs, who could have a big future as a jumping stallion, and, though Girls In Skirts is the most backward of the trio, she has to start somewhere and owner Charles Dingwall is happy to give it a go.”
We also have a couple of runners at Lingfield, and Alan hopes that first time cheekpieces might help Wurlitzer in the mile and a half handicap. He won in a visor at Wolverhampton in December, and, though he has been running well, Alan thinks a return to headgear might bring about a bit of improvement.
Our other runner on the polytrack is Hourless, who had two runs on Grade 1 tracks last July but will hopefully improve for a winter off, a drop in class and having been gelded.
David Pipe Racing
It is just the one runner for Pond House today, Eden Du Houx at Newbury. He runs in the 2.05pm handicap chase over 2m4f with Fergus Gillard on board. He is a talented horse, probably more talented than his form figures really imply and he was a good second at Sandown last time out two weeks ago. A mid race blunder put him on the back foot that day but what I really liked was how he powered up the Sandown hill and he would have won in another stride. It looks a competitive race and I think we might even be the outsider of the field but I think he will be a cracking each way bet. The track will suit and the more rain they get the better, it was certainly very wet during yesterday’s racing at the track. He is not always the most consistent but with conditions in his favour I hope he can run well.

LIGHTLY SQUEEZE and METIER joined forces in the competitive Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle at Sandown. Unfortunately, neither put up a particularly bold show. Metier hadn't had the ideal prep going into the race with a minor infection in the foot. Nevertheless, we were confident, in spite of this, that his favored heavy going would play into his strengths. He will likely be campaigned on the flat and holds an entry at Musselburgh in the Queen's Cup Handicap.
Lightly Squeeze was hampered putting paid to his chances. We were under no illusions that he faced a tall order as a nine-year-old in a race famed for producing precocious younger horses but had hoped he might pick up some prize-money. He owes his owners nothing and now heads off to enjoy a happy retirement.
The ground went against GOODTIMECREW on the same card at Sandown in the Listed EBF Mares' National Hunt Flat Race. It was always an unknown, and we will certainly be avoiding attritional conditions with her in the future. Jockey Jonathan Burke looked after her and the eventual winner Larchmont Lass she beat at Wincanton on her first start for us.
LOVE ENVOI flew the flag for the team at the Cheltenham Festival in the Mares' Hurdle on Tuesday. It was evident there wasn't much pace so Jonathan Burke jumped out and led the field. In fairness, she got an easy lead, and it was always going to take a good one to go by her up the hill. She has kept improving this season and was incredibly brave as multiple Grade 1 winner Honeysuckle challenged after the last. These two pulled well clear of the field, and we now head to the Punchestown Festival with high hopes she can bag a much-deserved Grade 1.
We ran GIN COCO in the County Hurdle on Friday, but unfortunately, the ground went against him. He ran a nice race to two out and he could well go back to Punchestown, where he finished second last year. Continuing at Cheltenham, MIGHT I contested the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle under Lorcan Murtagh, and as alluded to in the introduction, the welter burden of top weight may have been an ask too far. Hopefully, he can get his head in front over hurdles before the season draws to a close; next season, we may look to go chasing with him.
We had planned to run ASK ME EARLY in the Midlands National but took him out at the confirmation stage after not being able to get a prep run into him – the ground drying up in February didn't help our cause. Instead, we opted for the handicap hurdle on the same card at Uttoxeter to get him started again after his bloods results were amiss in December. He ran creditably, which should give him the confidence to progress. Hopefully, the unsettled weather holds, as we'll be looking at running him back over fences.
MONJULES gained his third win from four starts this season with a fluent success in testing conditions at Fontwell in the colours of David's Partnership. He looked the best horse throughout, jumping well apart from a mistake at the second last, drawing clear for a comfortable victory. He's only five and used to try to do everything at one hundred miles an hour when he first joined us. He is a different horse now, much more settled and relaxed, which is helping him in his races. While chasing might be on the radar in the near future, we could also make use of his mark on the flat before the autumn.
GREAT NAME THAT was unfortunate to bump into a nice horse in Shomen Uchi at Chepstow on his third start this season, finishing second. He has been the model of consistency with each run, but it's frustrating he hasn't quite managed to get his head in front. He jumps like a chaser, so that is undoubtedly where his future lies, but it would be nice to find him a similar race where he can get his head in front before we put him away for the Summer.
A horse that visually impressed us most this month is GIDLEIGH PARK who galloped to a commanding success at Chepstow on his racecourse bow under Jonathan Burke for the Eyre Family. He stands head and shoulders above everything else in the yard at home, so seeing him do that on debut was exciting. The form from the race looks good; the second horse is an Irish point-to-point winner, and the third horse across the line having finished a close-up second to Captain Teague, who was placed in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. He will enjoy a summer at grass to fill out before going over hurdles next season.
Our 30% strike rate in bumpers this season continued when QUEEN ANNIE fulfilled her promise on debut by winning at Chepstow under Ben Bromley for owner John McGeady Ltd. She looked to score with a bit in hand before idling in front. The plan for her is to be turned away before going the staying novice hurdle route next season.
SIR IVAN ran a credible race at Newbury in the Veterans' Handicap Chase under Lorcan Murtagh. He will now be switched to Hunter Chasing and could head to Taunton in April.
At Exeter the following day, REVELS HILL was just touched off in the Devon Stayers Handicap Chase. Under top weight, he rallied well from two out but couldn't quite hold off the persistent challenge of Coolvalla. He will have entries in the Scottish National, the Bet365 Chase at Sandown on the final day of the National Hunt season, and Punchestown.
